Hoolios debut new CD at Friday party in Westerly

Editor's note: This corrects the date of the CD release party to Friday.

Nashville-worthy singer-songwriter Jim Carpenter, who heads up one of the region's finest bands, The Hoolios, is as prolific as he is talented. On Friday, The Hoolios will celebrate their latest album, "God Invents Rock 'n' Roll," with a release party and performance in Westerly's Knickerbocker Café.

The CD contains a batch of fine new Carpenter songs, which he beautifully recorded with fellow Hoolios Mike Derry, Ron Lewis, Sandy Allen, Corina Malbaurn, Bill Light and Sarah MacLean. And the album art is inspired, featuring a parody of Michaelangelo's "Creation of Adam" fresco from the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel — only Adam's head happens to look just like Elvis.

Joining the band that night will be guest vocalists Jake Carpenter and Rachel Sargent. The CarLeans open the show, and a special remixed, remastered and retitled edition of an earlier Carpenter solo album, "Bajia Honda" and now called "The Rose of His Tattoo," will also be available for purchase.

Hoolios CD release party, 8 p.m. Friday, The Knickerbocker Music Center, 35 Railroad Ave., Westerly; $10; (401) 315-5070, locodare.com.
