Starry Lights come to Westerly and Pawcatuck
There are light displays, and there are LIGHT DISPLAYS.
Starry Lights from the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce promises to be the latter: big and bold and artistic.
This is the inaugural year for this large-scale, outdoor illuminated event will boast installations by commissioned artists. Those installations will populate the landscape from Wilcox Park in Westerly to Donahue Park in Stonington. It begins Friday and continues through Dec. 30.
Christopher Owens from Chester had started a project featuring 250-plus stars mounted on buildings in Chester, and that project inspired Lisa Konicki, president of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, to create Starry Lights.
Starry Lights will feature two of Owens’ works: Star Tunnel, which is 40 feet long and 15 feet tall, and Star Island, which will float on pontoons in the Wilcox Park pond.
Starry Lights, 4:30-9:30 p.m. Friday-Dec. 30, Wilcox Park, 44 Broad St., Westerly; Veterans Memorial Park, Stonington; and Donahue Park, 14 Mechanic St., Stonington; the opening at 4:30 p.m. Friday will include live music; starrylights.org.
