The Arts Center Killingworth, 276 North Parker Hill Road, presents Afternoons with an Artist workshops throughout May. First, on Saturday, May 19 from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., a professional photojournalist will lead "Beginning Digital Photography," sharing tips on how to operate point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras. Explore zoom, automatic and manual focus, lenses, natural light and flash, ISO settings, composition, image management, and proper care of camera. Go out into the field to photograph for later workshop review and critique. The fee is $70.

Also on Saturday, May 19, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., "Zany Chapeau Knit Workshop" offers participants the opportunity to learn to make infant and children's hat patterns. Skills acquired will include knitting in the round, finishing techniques, hemming, and stitches. Basic knitting experience is required. The fee is $40.

"Kusudama Origami" is offered on Sunday, May 20 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for a $40 fee. Create decorative pieces for the home by folding paper into basic units. Combine them with glue, thread, or interlock to form intricate, symmetrical models. Make 6-, 12-, and 24-piece forms. No experience necessary.
