The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme opens a new exhibition, “Abandon in Place: The Worlds of Anna Audette,” on Saturday, and it remains on view through Jan. 28.

Anna Held Audette, who lived from 1938 to 2013, was a Connecticut artist who discerned loveliness in decay, creating large oil paintings of the disused factories, machines, and scrapyards that are America’s ruins. Her works reference the arc of America’s ascendance and decline as a manufacturing titan, a process that transformed our environment through the extraction of resources and the deposit of waste. The often considerable scale of Audette’s works, and their depiction of rusting machines in the workshops or fields in which they were made and used, position her compositions somewhere between landscape, still life, and abstraction.

Also opening on Saturday is the museum’s popular Wee Faerie Village, which runs through Oct. 29.

The village features 23 faerie-sized installations across the museum’s campus. This year’s creations takes viewers under the sea, exploring the community of Fathom Heights, the underwater world of the sea faeries.⁠

The installations include those made by six schools and four new participants.

The museum at 96 Lyme St., Old Lyme, is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sun. Admission for Wee Faerie Village during the month of October is $17 adults, $16 ages 62 and up, $15 students, and free for members and kids 12 and under.
