    Westbrook High School (WHS) senior Brian Badstuebner won a Gold Key award in the Connecticut Art Education Association-sponsored Scholastic Art competition's painting category. His acrylic painting was executed on a large, 36" x 48" stretched canvas and was a study in abstract expressionism. His painting was exhibited in Hartford Art School's Silpe Gallery earlier this month and his work, along with that of all Gold Key winners throughout the country, will be sent to New York City to be judged for the National Scholastic Art Awards. Badstuebner has taken art classes at WHS since his sophomore year. He is presently enrolled at WHS in Marilyn Toth's UConn art class, which offers an early college experience. He has applied to various art programs in New England and plans to major in
