Tell Me Something: Dan Curland remembers Woodstock

The members of Rock and Soul Revue are (back, from left): Pete James, Steve Tavares, Tim Zeppieri, Chris Daniels, Dan Curland, Gail Curland (Dan's sister-in-law), Geno Champagne and Josi Davis.

To say that Mystic Disc is just another record store is like saying Jimi Hendrix was just another guy who knew a few chords. Dan Curland's record shop, which has been in business for more than 30 years, has long been a place where local music obsessives can feel at home and then bring some vinyl home.

When not at the shop, Curland is part of an eight-piece band called the Rock and Soul Revue which plays around the region. You can catch them at the Dog Watch on Friday, at The Wolf Den on March 24, and La Luna in Mystic on March 29.

Curland's most memorable experience as a music fan was attending The Woodstock Music and Art Fair at Yasgur's Farm in August, 1969. "It was the greatest weekend of my life, all those great bands in one place was a dream to me," Curland said. "I saw all the music right from the beginning to the end on Monday morning. I still have my tickets, program, T-shirt and poster."
