Tell Me Something: Quiet Life returns to New London roots on Saturday

The band Quiet Life includes Philippe Bronchtein, Ryan Spellman, Sean W. Spellman and Thor Robert Jensen.

“Housebroken Man,” the new EP from Quiet Life, the Portland, Ore. based band that called New London home in its early years, features guest vocals by Cary Ann Hearst from Shovels and Rope; as well as My Morning Jacket singer Jim James on a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Waitin’ Around to Die.” The band will return home this Saturday, Sept. 6 to take part in the i am festival, the all ages, totally free all-day music-thon in downtown New London. “Housebroken Man” is available on iTunes, Amazon and Mama Bird Recording Co.

The band travels in a 2002 Ford E350 diesel van that was converted to run on used vegetable oil. Singer-guitarist Sean Spellman checked in from out on the road.

Sorry to have to tell you this, but an asteroid is going to wipe out all humanity next week. So, what’s your last meal and who is coming to dinner?

Well shoot, I'm gonna have to call in some of the fine folks at Minca in NYC to meet me on the beach so they can cook up a hot caldron of ramen for us. Me and a few friends, family, and one or two strangers to mix it up. For an asteroid appetizer I'm hoping we can get some Noank oysters cracked open as well.

    The Rolling Stones:

    “Wild Horses”

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve got from your parents, grandparents, or someone older than you?

    Do what makes you happy.

Out of all the books you’ve ever read which one would you give a copy to all of your friends?

I just started “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and I'd give those first 25 pages to anyone.
