    H.S. roundup: Griswold's Waldron pitches five-inning perfect game

    Plainfield — Kaelin Waldron pitched a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and had two hits, including a double, with five RBI as Griswold overwhelmed Plainfield on Monday, 25-0, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II softball game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

    Sonja Matheson had two hits, including a double and four RBI for the Wolverines (3-0, 3-0) and Sydney Dameron had two hits, including a double, with two RBI. Audrey Giroux added three hits and an RBI.

    In other games:

    • McKynzi Dawson threw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and Charlotte Cabral went 3-for-4, including a triple, with three RBI as Fitch downed New London, 12-2, in a six inning ECC Division I game. Grace Jenkins had two hits, including a three-run home run, for the Falcons (3-0, 3-0). Fiorella Smith singled for the Whalers (0-3, 0-3).

    • Kassidy LaTour and Hannah Christiansen combined to pitch a one-hitter as Lyman Memorial defeated Tourtellotte 18-0 in a five inning ECC Division II game. The Bulldogs (2-1, 2-1) took control with a nine-run second inning that included doubles by Rayne Bobbi, Loretta Svedarsky, Rylee Benway and Kayla Goins. Goins had given Lyman a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI double. Bobbi finished with three hits and four RBI, including a home run, while Benway had three hits and three RBI.

    • Caitie Flynn had two doubles, four runs and four RBI and pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts to pace Norwich Tech past Cheney Tech, 20-4, in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Gabby Fedus had two hits, four RBI and two runs, Morgan Cook and Avery Sulman each had four runs and two RBI and Megan Dittrich scored four times and stole four bases for Norwich Tech (1-1).

    • Vinal Tech beat Grasso Tech, 36-18, in a CTC game. Sam Post had three hits, including a triple, with two RBI for Grasso (0-1) and Ayanna Hazel had two hits and two RBI.

    Baseball

    • Jimmy Creagan had two hits, including a two-out, go-ahead RBI double to score Alex Roth in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Old Lyme edged Portland, 4-3, in a Shoreline Conference game. Riley Warecke scattered four hits over six innings with seven strikeouts and no earned runs and added a single and an RBI for Old Lyme (2-3, 2-3), and Creagan went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Also, and Jesper Silberberg had two hits, a run and an RBI and Colbe Andrews retired the side in relief in the seventh inning and Roth had two hits.

    • Unbeaten Waterford scored 12 times in the sixth inning to beat Woodstock Academy, 15-4. Ryan Salvador had two hits, including a double, and four RBI in the sixth inning for the Lancers (4-0) while Will Rocchetti added two hits and three RBI in that inning.

    • Logan Fowle and Derek Nunez each had a single, two runs and two RBI as Grasso Tech opened its season by routing Vinal Tech, 15-3, in a five-inning CTC game. Jaivon Velez had a single, two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases for Grasso and Tito Arias added two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases. Also, Jesus Sanchez had a triple, two RBI and a run and Reynaldo Hidalgo singled with two runs and an RBI.

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Quinn Perkins and Anthony Ballestrini had three goals and three assistst apiece as NFA outlasted Montville 9-6. Matthew Langley added two goals and three assists, Sam Thompson added one goal and one assist for the Wildcats (2-1) and goalie Sam Sweeney made eight saves. Antonio Brown scored four goals to lead the Indians (0-3), Sawyer Tighe had one goal and one assist, Brandon Pederen scored a goal and goalie Steven Turchetta made 22 saves.

    Girls' lacrosse

    • Aislinn Strecker scored eight times for New London in its 15-12 win over St. Bernard in an ECC Division I game. Emilia Skrabacz had six goals and JeLicia Rivera scored for the Whalers (1-1, 1-1). Erin Londregan had three goals for the Saints (0-1, 0-1) and Li Liu, Sophia Videll, Liz Hannaford and Lindsay Clement all scored twice.

    Boys' golf

    • Jack Kramer earned medalists honors (41) in Fitch's 7-0 win over New London in an ECC Division I match at Shennecossett Golf Course. Nate McCormack shot a 44, Elliot Reese a 49 and Casey Adams a 50 for Fitch (2-1, 2-1). The Whalers are 0-2, 0-2.

    • Griswold's Matt Ladd and Lucas Hanley both shot a 48 to finish as co-medalists and lead the Wolverines past Plainfield, 6.5-0.5, in an ECC Division II match at River Ridge Country Club. Ryan Fasula shot a 59 for Griswold (2-0, 2-0).
