    H.S. softball: Waterford's Connors, Miller combine on no-hitter

    Waterford - Kelli Connors and Erin Miller combined to pitch a no-hitter as top-ranked Waterford High School rolled to a 9-0 victory over East Lyme on Friday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division softball game.

    Connors went the first five innings, walking two and striking out five, while Miller had two strike outs over the final two innings.

    Katelyn Sykora went 2-for-2, including career hits Nos. 100 and 101, and finished with three RBI for the Lancers (13-0, 6-0), and Elaina Sullivan went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

    East Lyme is 5-8, 1-5.

    In other games:

    • Kim Bigelow had three hits for Montville and drove in the game-winning run as the Indians beat New London 9-8 in the ECC Medium Division. Bigelow also scored three runs for Montville (7-5, 3-2), and Danielle Autencio went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Chanel Johnson went 4-for-5 with three runs scored for New London (2-9, 1-4).

    • Brianna Turgeon went 3-for-5, including a three-run home run, and had five RBI, powering Fitch past Woodstock Academy, 15-0, in an ECC Large game that lasted six innings because of the mercy rule. Winning pitcher Alana Luzzio had a two-run home run and single while Stephanie Filosa went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Taylor Noel had three hits and two RBI for the Falcons (11-3, 5-1).

    • Allie Chornoby had two hits, stole four bases, and scored four runs as Norwich Tech shut out O'Brien Tech 19-0 in four innings. Norwich Tech's (10-2) Elisa Formiglio didn't allow a hit and improved her record to 9-2, while Stacey Bowen added two hits, scored twice, and had two stolen bases for the Warriors.

    • Thais Caraganis had two home runs that cleared a 210-foot fence and three RBI, powering Lyman Memorial past Plainfield, 10-6, in the ECC Small. Sierra Ballsieper went 3-for-4 and Haley McCall had two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-1), who've won six of seven.

    • Melissa Halloran and Mena Buscetto each had a double in St. Bernard's 4-3 loss to Killingly in the ECC Small. The Saints are 8-4, 4-1. Winning pitcher Heather Gosselin had a home run for the Redgals.

    • Grasso Tech split a pair of Constitution State Conference games, losing to Windham Tech 12-4 before beating Kaynor Tech of Waterbury 19-4. Mary Murphy and Debbie Florez each had two hits for Grasso against Windham Tech. Lauren Ramirez had three hits for Grasso (6-6) against Kaynor and winning pitcher Selena Ramirez and Paige Mingione had doubles for the Eagles.

    • Old Saybrook committed five errors, contributing to a 3-1 loss to North Branford in eight innings. The teams combined for just two hits but North Branford (10-3) scored the tying run in the sixth off two errors and its third run in a two-run eighth off another error. Kasey Commander had a home run for the Rams (7-5).
