Saints advance to Class S softball title game
Stratford — Rivkah Berkman scattered six hits as 20th-seeded St. Bernard School advanced to the finals of the CIAC Class S softball tournament on Tuesday with an 8-0 semifinal victory over No. 8 Canton at DeLuca Field.
The Saints (15-9) will play No. 2 Coginchaug of Durham in the championship game either Friday or Saturday at a site and time to be announced.
Berkman walked two and struck out three for St. Bernard, which scored two runs in the fourth to break a scoreless tie and broke the game open with three more runs in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Melissa Halloran and Amanda Carpentier each had two hits and an RBI for the Saints while Mena Buscetto added a pair of hits.
