    Turgeon homer lifts Mystic

    Groton — The Mystic Schooners won for just the third time this season on Thursday, beating Laconia 6-5 in New England Collegiate Baseball League action at Fitch High School.

    The Schooners (3-18) scored two runs in the seventh inning on former Fitch star Anthony Turgeon’s two-run home run to take a 6-3 lead and held on for the win.

    Ryan Lindemuth had a two-run home run in the first inning and finished with two hits for Mystic. Spencer Haynes had two hits, including a solo home run, and scored twice.

    Tigers drop to 5-13

    ■ Jake Stewart led off the game with his first professional home run, but the Connecticut offense mustered just one more run, losing 8-2 to Batavia in a New York-Penn League road game.

    Batavia (10-8) scored two runs in the third inning to take the lead for good, 4-2.

    Tyler Hanover had an RBI single for the Tigers (5-13).

    American Legion Zone VI

    ■ Tre Gonzalez improved to 4-0, pitching a complete game in Montville’s 8-1 win over Willimantic. Tyler Contillo had a single, double, triple and three RBI and Casey Zalagens and Andrew Fratoni each had a hit and two RBI for Montville (19-2).

    ■ Austin Toback had a single, double, scored two runs and drove in one, lifting Niantic past Norwich 8-1. Mike Mann and Bill Buscetto each had two hits and an RBI while Cole Tretter earned the win for Niantic. Ethan Gagnon had a single and RBI for Norwich.

    Junior Legion

    ■ Ledyard-Pawcatuck beat Montville 2-1 behind the pitching of Matt McElwee, who scattered six hits while walking four and striking out eight in a complete-game effort. Clayton Levis had two singles for Ledyard.

    ■ Logan Gordon went the distance, allowing four hits, and Will Trask had three hits and two stolen bases, leading Norwich past Niantic 8-0. Brandon Deveny went 3-for-4 for Norwich (5-6). which scored seven runs in the sixth. Niantic is 5-9.

    Youth baseball

    District 6 Babe Ruth (15)

    ■ New London advanced to the championship round with an 8-1 win over Groton in the losers’ bracket final. John Carlos-Hernandez had two hits and Justin Duvurge had a single and two RBI for New London, which plays unbeaten Waterford at 11 a.m. Saturday.

    District 6 Babe Ruth (14)

    ■ Thomas Sutera pitched a four-hitter as Waterford defeated Tri-County 5-3 in the losers’ bracket. Sutera struck out six and also had a double. Mike Gianakus and Declan Waldron each had two RBI for Waterford, which plays New London at 5:30 today at Veterans Field in Niantic in the losers’ bracket final.

    District 6 Babe Ruth (13)

    ■ Mystic broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth inning, beating Groton 14-2 in a losers’ bracket game that lasted just four and half innings because of the mercy rule. Mike Williams earned the win and added two hits and an RBI while Dan Clark had three hits and four RBI and Mike Dellaporta had two hits and two RBI for Mystic. Hunter Nadeau had two hits and Ryan Stanford had two hits and an RBI for Groton.

    District 10 Little League (11-12)

    ■ In a losers’ bracket game, Colchester beat New London 11-1, as winning pitcher Jameson Violett allowed one run, two hits and struck out nine. Matt Tiziani went 2-for-4 and Chase Hathaway and Paul Chasse each had one hit for Colchester.

    ■ Trevor Delesdernier was the winning pitcher as East Lyme defeated Lyme-Old Lyme 7-4 in the losers’ bracket. Matt Abbey had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI while Nick Tricarico and Dylan Hatajik each had doubles for East Lyme. Jace Funaro, Dan Reid and John Balloca each had a hit for Lyme-Old Lyme.

    ■ T.J. McBride earned the win and had a home run, leading Waterford North past North Stonington 13-1 in the losers’ bracket. Collin Bakken, Jake Huff, Jayson Page, and Nick Ferraina had extra base hits for Waterford North. Caleb Melinosky had an extra base hit for North Stonington.

    District 10 Little League (10-11)

    ■ Nathan Miller was forced in on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Pawcatuck its 10-9 win over East Lyme in losers’ bracket game. Miller, who was 3-for-4, had earlier singled in the tying run. Jayden Stefanski pitched the win for Pawcatuck and Wade Post earned the save. Also, David Defanti had a double and two RBI and Jacob Geary had two hits. Tommy Mason had two doubles for East Lyme.

    Youth softball

    District 10 Junior League (13-14)

    ■ Taylor Lavallie and Hannah Meyers had two hits apiece in Montville’s 15-1 win over Colchester in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament. Emily Bigelow had a triple and Brianna Cottrell earned the win for Montville. Julia Eifler, Cecila Dell and Collen Anderson all singled for Colchester.

    District 10 Little League (9-10)

    ■ Waterford South beat Salem/Bozrah 6-5 in the championship round to force a deciding game. The teams play Sunday at 5 p.m. at Waterford South. Jenna Gannon had the winning RBI while Ciana Chiappone and Lily Stoddard each had two hits for Waterford South. Kamyrn Gurne, Abby Bradford and Ashley Lawton had hits for Salem/Bozrah.
