Cheshire nudges Ridgefield out of The Day's Top 10 coaches' poll

Ridgefield was crushed last weekend by second-ranked St. Joseph 41-0 two weeks ago.

The Tigers didn’t fall out of The Day's Top 10 state football coaches’ poll.

Ridgefield rebounded on Friday night by handing out a drubbing of its own to Stamford, 56-12.

The Tigers, however, were pushed out of the top 10 this week, even after gaining more points from voters than they did the previous week.

Ridgefield (6-1) had 156 points, seven more than it did last week.

Cheshire (6-1), however, gained 21 more points this week for a total of 161 to overtake the Tigers at No. 10. The Rams have wins over three five-win teams this season — Shelton (24-12), Masuk (52-22) and East Haven (48-14).

There were no other changes in this week's poll with top-ranked Hand (7-0) receiving 11 of 13 first-place votes. Second-ranked St. Joseph (7-0) received the other two first-place votes.

Killingly (7-0), the Eastern Connecticut Conference’s lone unbeaten team, remains the only conference team getting votes in the poll. The Red Hawks will play their toughest conference game of the season on Friday at Norwich Free Academy (4-3). Killingly beat NFA last season in overtime.
