Checking in with Jonah: "To every kid that will pass through Lyman and the baseball program, make it count while it lasts. You don't realize how much you miss school and baseball and people until you can't have it. Relish every moment. Don't take for granted what gift you have been given. To every senior, there are better days ahead."

What you need to know about Jonah: Person's favorite baseball memory is an easy one to pick. He delivered a clutch, game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning last May to lift Lyman Memorial past league-leading Montville 4-3, giving Lyman a share of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III title. "The division title game against Montville was the most extraordinary game I have ever been a part of," Person said. "It seemed like every practice and game earlier that year was designed for that game. Going into the eighth inning down 2, you could feel the tension and nervousness but also the excitement. As Mr. (Marty) Gomez (Lyman coach) had been saying all year long, 'If we can win every pitch, we can win every game.' With that in mind, our team battled and battled until I was in the right place in the order at the right time." Person was an honorable mention All-ECC pick in baseball, Lyman's all-league scholar-athlete award winner during soccer season and also competed in indoor track this year for the first time. Although he has played baseball the longest, he called his senior soccer season, in which the Bulldogs reached the Class S state tournament quarterfinals, "the best three months of my life." "I wouldn't trade it for anything," he said. "Every second of every practice and every game is something I'll hold in my memory for a lifetime." Person will continue his baseball career at Eastern. He played baseball at Lyman with his brother Micah as a freshman and sophomore and with younger brother Josh last year. His favorite high school classes are physical education and AP statistics. As for what he was most looking forward to this spring, Person said: "Just being able to play at the peak of my baseball career. Every baseball moment in my whole life has been building up to this season."
