    H.S. roundup: Eastern CT Eagles edge Suffield 2-1

    Norwich — Declan York of Ledyard scored his first varsity goal, an empty-netter in the third period, as the Eastern Connecticut Eagles edged Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks 2-1 on Monday afternoon in a high school hockey game at the Rose Garden Ice Rink.

    Dylan Relaz of Norwich Tech added an unassisted goal in the first period for the Eagles (2-2) and goalie Cam McCollum made 21 saves for his first varsity win.

    Boys' basketball

    • Javen Foster had 20 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots as unbeaten Norwich Free Academy defeated Norwalk 75-67 in a non-conference game. Nazir Rembert and Tony Williams added 19 points apiece for the No. 7 Wildcats (5-0) while Austin Cannon had 11 points, including three 3-pinters, and Jayden Desilus had 11 rebounds.

    • Waterford rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Glastonbury 54-43 in the opening round of the Art Kohs Classic at Xavier. Logan Peabody scored a game-high 20 points for the Lancers (3-2), while Jordan Elci finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Sean O'Connell added eight points, six assists and five rebounds. Waterford will play Xavier, a 48-46 winner over Valley Regional in the other first-round game, in Tuesday's final at 7:15 p.m.

    • Wheeler advanced to the final of the Grasso Tech Holiday Tournament with a 65-41 win over Montville. Zane Brewer led the Lions (2-2) with 19 points while Keith Zardies added 14 and Deondre Bransford had a double-double with 10 points and 20 rebounds. Montville is 0-2. Grasso Tech played Norwich Tech in the second game.

    Girls' basketball

    • Host Montville advanced to the final of the Montville Holiday Tournament with a 41-32 victory over Wheeler. The Indians (2-3) will play Old Saybrook (2-1), a 44-11 winner over Norwich Tech, on Wednesday at 12:30 a.m. Wheeler and Norwich Tech will play in the consolation at 11 a.m.

    In Montville's win, Jada Cheung led the way with 19 points while Maya Hillman added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Addie Hauptmann had nine points and seven rebounds while Marissa Perkins added nine points and six rebounds for the Lions (1-4)

    Breleigh Cooke scored 29 points in Old Saybrook's win over Norwich Tech. Autumn Hanks scored six points for the Warriors (0-4) and Ashly Bill had five.
