Sensible background checks could save lives

In the United States, gun control has been difficult to enforce. This is an issue because there are individuals who use firearms as a weapon. A firearm is only a weapon if used with the intent to harm another person. Gun control has not been successful as it could be because of the process to gain a gun license and the process of purchasing a firearm.

This is an important issue because of the means in which firearms are being used against innocent civilians. A big problem is background checks and other mental evaluations that should be included in gaining a hunting or firearm's permit. According to a 2016 Lancet study, implementing federal universal background checks could reduce firearm deaths by a projected 56.9 percent and another 80.7 percent by implementing background checks for purchasing ammunition.

Propert gun control could prevent further tragedies.
