Promote off-shore wind, not off-shore drilling

Carpe Diem is Latin for “Seize the Day” but how do you say “Seizing the wind-energy opportunity” in Latin? Your editorial, “Positive signs state is ready to seize offshore wind-energy opportunity,” (Feb. 13), provides hope for the future despite the “too little too late” climate change background chorus refusing to be silenced. How surreal for President Trump’s United States to be the only country outside the world’s Paris Climate Treaty, while you report “off-shore wind has grown exponentially over the past several years” with Connecticut’s leadership proclaiming: We need to be a player in this game, arriving tardy to the off-shore wind party where technological advances now make costs competitive with other forms of energy.

Cost competitive renewable energy is a win-win, future oriented no-brainer combining desperately needed employment with climate saving opportunities as opposed to Trump’s 2018 off-shore drilling solution. Caution: It’s a no-win situation to the climate change denying and well-funded fossil fuel industry that needs to accept the changing energy business dynamic and choose instead to lead this renewable energy revolution, mitigating future damage.
