First selectman should be in town hall
Apparently Stonington First Selectman Rob Simmons already considers his term ended, as three times in the past two weeks during what should be office hours, I have seen him doing errands on the family farm. It finally prompted a call at approximately 11:15 a.m. to the town hall to find out if he was on vacation. His secretary assured me he was not and asked if I wanted to leave a message. I told her I did not. However, I did say I was curious as to why he was not at work.
Two hours later, Mr. Simmons apparently had returned and spent time to look up my wife's cell phone number (I had called on our landline), and took the time out of his already severely abbreviated day to call and berate me for calling the office and following him around to check his schedule.
Apparently he has forgotten he is paid by tax dollars as the chief public official in town. If so, he should not even be considered for a volunteer position as important as being on the Board of Education, where he might have to show up and really do some work! Time to put him out to pasture!
