Add two qualified candidates to vital board in East Lyme
In our view, boards of finance are vital to local governance. Municipal undertakings so often require the analysis and approval of a Board of Finance. The skills, dedication, and yes, even temperament of volunteers who serve on finance boards especially matter.
Larry Fitzgerald and Matt Kane, candidates for the East Lyme Board of Finance, possess the necessary qualities to help the board perform its important function. Each has already demonstrated dedication to our community through their service. Larry serves on the Planning Commission. Matt served a four-year term on the Zoning Commission. Both have had exemplary training and outstanding careers in their respective fields of business and law enforcement.
Following a successful career as a scientist, manager, and consultant in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, Larry is now an adjunct professor at Fairfield and Sacred Heart Universities. Matt is a Connecticut State Trooper and a staff instructor at the State Police Training Academy. He was previously Killingly’s resident trooper.
Larry and Matt have shown their ability to work collaboratively with others, particularly through their teaching experience. This quality is essential to the smooth functioning of the board, especially when it faces difficult issues.
Please vote for Larry and Matt.

Finding a cooperative path to move forward

Senate censure, criminal trial would be better than impeachment
I have pondered the question of the possible Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump. An argument could be made that Senate witnesses or victims from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot are now judge and jury. No witness or victim in our justice system can be a jury member or judge in a criminal case they...
Teach our young to recognize propaganda
So, we have seen what happens when people blindly follow an autocratic cult leader for four long years. It has been beyond tragic and our recovery will take some time. We ask ourselves why these followers did not question Trump’s behavior and continued to believe his lies and false...
