Listen to the public, move Coast Guard museum location

Since 2014, many have written to The Day regarding the site chosen for the National Coast Guard Museum. All are in favor of putting the proposed museum in New London, but not building on fill on the waterfront behind the H.H. Richardson railroad station, a historic edifice. Each of these buildings should stand alone to be properly seen and appreciated.

Fort Trumbull is the logical site for the museum. It is on high, safe bedrock with space to expand and room for RVs and construction equipment. The active Coast Guard station is there. And there is historical precedent for marine educational facilities. Several studies have endorsed the area.

What lawyers and politicians have wrought, they can revise. It takes courage to admit you have made a mistake, but please do so and correct the error.
