Officer's stated unwillingness to change is a red flag

I write in response to East Lyme Police officer Bruce Babcock's biased and head-shaking column, “‘I have done nothing to cause feelings of guilt’: A veteran officer speaks out,” (July 26). How can an officer of the law profess to having a "limited range of knowledge"?? How can he say, "I have no intention of changing my approach to my job or my life," in these tense, uncertain times? As America is going through social reform it is beyond ridiculous that he would say this! Everyone in this world needs to rethink their approach to how they treat people.

I personally have been harassed and intimidated by a different East Lyme officer, another example that something is amiss with the training of the East Lyme Police Department. There are millions of great officers in the U.S. but also scary that in one small town there is one officer publicly admitting he has no intention of changing his ways, and another who abuses his authority. It is clear that the East Lyme police force needs to be retrained and reeducated on how to deal with America and its changing world, how to put their ego's aside, and how to be respectful human beings.
