Coast Guard enriches our nation, community

Not a word in the Aug. 4 Day honoring the 230th birthday of the United States Coast Guard. Alexander Hamilton started the Coast Guard in 1790 and the bill was signed by George Washington.

We have a beautiful Academy in New London graduating many officers every year. Plans are being made for a museum. In the summer, concerts are given by talent Coast Guard musicians.

It is a joy to see the Eagle sailing down the Thames River as she heads to the Sound.

People would love to hear about the many duties and jobs (and many dangerous) that the Coast Guard does, plus learn something besides.

    Semper Paratus.
