Cheeseman fought to preserve Millstone station

It is unusual for me to take the time to write a letter to the editor about anything, but I wanted to urge support for the reelection of state Rep. Holly Cheeseman (East Lyme and Salem). It is refreshing to see a legislator participate so consistently in community events. I have seen her gracefully interacting at Smith’s Acres, Niantic Public House, and East Lyme High School during a soroptimist event encouraging technical careers for girls.

She was instrumental in the passage of a bill that allowed Millstone Power Station to compete against other carbon-free resources to sell power at a beneficial price to Connecticut’s two utilities. As a proud employee of Millstone, I understand that its continued operation prevents more than four million tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere each year. Millstone contributes more than $1 billion annually to the Connecticut economy and supports more than 1,000 highly skilled women and men in good paying jobs.

Along with support from Sen. Paul Formica and Rep. Kathleen McCarty, this bill passed, preventing the plant from being forced to close early and another business exiting Connecticut.

I hope others join me in voting for Holly.
