Student indoctrination has been the problem

I agree with the premise of Red Jahncke's op-ed piece that our schools are responsible for educating, not indoctrinating, our children, “If schools indoctrinate, more will home school to educate,” (May 12). I strongly disagree with the proposition that they have done so. Since the beginning of public education in the United States, we have been taught the elements of history that reflected a positive view of events. Negative elements were eliminated. Thus, it is past and current generations who have been indoctrinated and have not been given the information necessary to fully understand the situation we find ourselves in today. I applaud efforts to correct this and believe that knowledge and understanding will make us stronger and help us reach the point that we can be the great country we strive to be.
