The major TV news channels included coverage of the results of the “audit” of the 2020 presidential election in Maricopa County, Arizona, as did a number of print news outlets. I wondered how Fox News would cover that news, so I searched the online Fox News app. I went through the app twice but could not find any reference whatsoever of the results of the audit. As is now well known, the audit conclusively proved that the published results were accurate and there was no indication of election fraud. Trump lost and Biden won.

In 2016, Fox News quietly dropped the “Fair and Balanced” slogan and replaced it with “Most watched, most trusted”. Clearly, neither of those slogans actually apply to Fox News. However, of greater importance is the problem that the fundamental democratic ideals of this country are being challenged and impugned by a great number, although not all, Republicans and those efforts are being aided and abetted by Fox News.

Benjamin Franklin, after the Republic was created, allegedly answered a questioner who asked what kind of system had been created; his answer was “A Republic, if you can keep it.” His comment is most prescient in these dangerous times.
