Gratitude for public response during recent VFW Poppy drive

It is customary to give thanks for various reasons this time of year — especially on Thanksgiving Day. I am thankful for the very generous public response in East Lyme for the recent, successful VFW Post 5849 "Wear a Poppy" event.

Along with the general public, our Post also thanks the several local merchants in Niantic and Flanders which supported our event by allowing our Post to solicit donations in front of their businesses.

Our "All-American" designated VFW Post uses 100% of these donations to help veterans (and families) in need or distress — the beneficiaries of the donations are equally thankful on Thanksgiving Day, as well as the rest of the year. Thank you, everyone involved!

Robert Guenther, Commander
