The article on the earning power of humanities majors compared to technical and scientific degree holders suggests that the only point of an education is to make more money. ("On path to riches, no sign of fluffy majors," May 25.)

Humanities grads know better. They know that knowledge of what one loves is worth more than a fat wallet. No matter how much they earn or don't earn, no one can ever take from them their poetry, literature, music or art. Many, probably most, never lose their love of Shakespeare, Mozart, Cezanne or whatever the source of their youthful passions.

An engineer, chemist or computer geek may be able to afford a new McMansion with a shiny BMW in the driveway. But humanities majors have castles in the air, and wings to fly.
