Appreciation for the Town of North Haven

SARAH has been providing services to children and adults with intellectual and other disabilities for more than 50 years. One of our major goals is to find jobs for people with disabilities. We are fortunate to have 120 SARAH participants working, many on a daily basis, at many businesses along the shoreline and the North Haven surrounding area.

This past year, SARAH, Inc., expanded our services to the North Haven community. As new neighbors, we asked for an appointment to introduce ourselves to First Selectman Mike Freda. He graciously invited us to his office, and after explaining who we are and what we do, he asked us two questions: "What do you need?" and "How can I help?" With the assistance of his team, and specifically Lynn Sadosky, director of Public Works for North Haven, they not only opened doors, but they opened the entire town to support our work through SARAH Recycles.

This past year Alcoa Howmet awarded us a $15,000 grant with the goal of increasing jobs and protecting the environment. With the cooperation of the Town of North Haven and the grant money from Alcoa, the stars aligned. Today, you will find SARAH Recycles collection bins in public parks and athletic fields throughout North Haven.

As a result of the partnership with Alcoa Howmet and the Town of North Haven, SARAH Recycles now employs an additional 10 supported workers and we are well on our way to achieving our goal to increase our recycling collection to more than 800,000 bottles and cans this year!

So we are pleased to recognize The Town of North Haven with our Award of Appreciation. This award was accepted on behalf of the town by North Haven First Selectman Mike Freda at a recent SARAH awards presentation.
