The preferred developer of the Seaside Regional Center will take another bite of the apple at a public hearing in Waterford Town Hall, June 25, 7 p.m. Now he wants to add a 40-room inn and banquet facilities to the site. His new approach all but ensures demolition of the historic buildings, closes off the main drive to the public, and moves the public access road onto a neighboring property.

This is a full-blown commercial proposal with newly constructed dwellings managed by the inn (time shares?), and a banquet facility serving liquor into the wee hours in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood. Obviously, past promises to build a "low-impact development that will preserve the residential character of the neighborhood" have been abandoned.

The new pitch is for an exclusive "world-class resort," which First Selectman Dan Steward is confident will be attractive to financiers, and he offers no apology to the homeowners in the neighborhood whose quality of life will be immeasurably ruined.

People of Waterford, don't abandon Seaside the way state and town officials have. Attend this meeting and let the Planning and Zoning Commission know that this is not the right way to preserve the Seaside property.
