    Don't cut spending for libraries

The proposed budget submitted to the legislature by Governor Malloy calls for eliminating $2 million million dollars from library funding in the state. This proposed reduction in state support of libraries would drastically undercut and even eliminate many services provided by libraries.

From the inception of public libraries in this country, they have served as cornerstones and foundations of education, informational access, cultural events and community-building. The role they play now, especially for residents of urban and inner city areas is greater than ever.

More information and specifics of the proposed budget cuts can be found on the website of the Connecticut Library Association. I urge all who wish to preserve the services of public libraries in Connecticut to contact their legislative representatives and urge them to fully restore the funding.
