Stonington's Spellman did his job, he didn't harrass

In “McKrell charges Spellman harassed her with pesticide questions,” (July 23), Ms. McKrell complains that Selectman Spellman’s questions about pesticides to be “unwelcome conduct based on being a female Director of Public Works.” I beg to differ. Mr. Spellman is doing his job and asking the questions for the public and doing his job as defined by state statute and the town’s charter.

The public’s right to know what is being done by the town in the case of pesticide application, and if what is being done follows proper precautions by law (including what and when it is being applied), is not harassment, it is called responsible oversight. If Ms. McKrell cannot tolerate questions from the Board of Selectmen or the public, perhaps she needs to pursue other interests. She is a public official in her role and must learn to live with public scrutiny.

As for Mr. Spellman, bravo, keep it up!
