The right approach to heroin abuse

Our prisons are filled to overflowing with young men and women who have the disease of addiction but aren't getting enough help.

Connecticut is one of the richest states in our country, yet we don't have enough affordable treatment centers. Why is that?

The recent articles in The Day about deadly heroin, “Groton, Stonington police chiefs visit Gloucester program that treats, rather than arrests, addicts,” (Sept. 19) and “Helping heroin addicts,” (Sept. 22), and police extending their hands to help addicts are steps in the right direction.

Please continue writing articles like these to keep us informed.
