    Don't give live bunnies

Rabbits are cute, but should not be given to younger children as pets at Easter time. Bunnies need extra care, and careful research about them should be conducted prior to bestowing them as gifts to a child.

My daughter, for example, has two toddlers and she is diligently teaching them to not pull the dogs' ears, poke them in the eyes, etc. When the child is older and can fully understand the comprehensive care rabbits require, then it's time to consider adopting one. Instead, get the little children a stuffed bunny rabbit. Then watch and see, how quickly the novelty of playing with the stuffed bunny diminishes!

This real live bunny needs fresh water, appropriate food, love, and the proper care (including costly veterinary) for the rest of its life.

We all know how impulsive young children are; they will quickly promise to care for the bunny, but young children have many other priorities in life, and will quickly lose interest in their new pet.

Then the poor rabbit goes to a shelter, as so many of them end up, after Easter. Or worse, these poor creatures remain in a home, being neglected or abused.
