Schools shouldn't cross line into indoctrination

Educators or indoctrinators? Should teachers be allowed to mold the political opinions of kindergarten children?

The New London Harbor School kindergarten walkout on March 14 was clearly not a safety drill, but about educators using children without parental permission to advance their political agenda on gun control. Children were escorted outside by teachers carrying signs that read “ENOUGH”.

This political football got me thinking about how thankful I am to my Harbor School principal the late Stan Hall who knew what page his students and teachers were on at all times, and to my elementary school teachers who did not inject propaganda into classroom instruction.

Another thank you goes to NLHS Problems of Democracy teacher, the late Dr. Charles Frink, who taught his students how to think, not what to think. He taught unbiased balanced lessons teaching us how to look at both sides of a controversial issue.

Our public schools are becoming a cesspool of political indoctrination. The Harbor School kindergarten protest was a wake-up call for parents to question teachers about bias and intent. It is our job as parents to hold the schools accountable for educating our children in a fair and unbiased manner.
