Pooch gave comfort to a dying woman

I would like to comment on Diane Amburn’s letter, “Healing dog therapy,” (May 10), on allowing dog therapy in health venues.

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital does allow family members of patients to bring along dogs as long as they are on a leash, have proof of vaccination and healthy. Family is responsible to control them and clean after them if they have an accident. I brought my sister’s dog there to visit her by request when she was ailing from liver disease of which she eventually died. It made her day to see the dog, Amy, one last time.

As I walked her through the halls, employees and guests were all looking and smiling at Amy! Even patients in rooms were noticing her through their doorways and waving! As Diane says, it is very uplifting, even for an entire hospital, to have dog therapy, which I also found works all around.
