'Say Something' and prevent needless tragedy

“Say Something” week, offered by the nonprofit organization Sandy Hook Promise from Newtown, is the week of February 25. Truly, this has the potential to save lives. The no-cost, research-based "Say Something" program teaches students in grades 6-12 how to look for warning signs and signals from people who may want to hurt themselves or others and how to report those signs and signals so that an intervention may begin.

When it comes to violence, suicide, self-harm or fear-inducing threats, most are known by at least one other individual before the incident takes place. By building a culture of looking out for one another and reporting unsafe behavior and threats of violence, our schools and communities will become safer. To sign up your school or youth organization, at no cost, please visit: www.sandyhookpromise.org or contact the SECT chapter at SandyHookPromiseSoutheasternCT@gmail.com.
