Shore Line East needs a marketing plan

As a student of rail passenger services, I have found one of the missing elements is a well thought out marketing plan for Shore Line East Rail. (“The possibilities of Shore Line East,” Oct. 7)

The marketing plan must make known the existing of this service (you would be surprised how many people in southeastern Connecticut do not know about it); the economic advantages it offers to riders vs using your car; safety and convenience; and help the environment.

Do the plan and at the same time offer economic incentives like a $10 a month ticket like they just tried in Germany, and maybe ridership will rise rather than decline. Tens of millions for capital equipment and no serious funding for marketing?
