I could not help but notice the picture in Sunday’s local sports section of The Day’s Nov. 13 print edition showing applause for former New London coach Jim Buonocore, honoring him at Ledyard/New London halftime for his 30-plus years of coaching.

I vividly recall over 57 years ago my junior and senior Fitch high school football days being coached then by assistant backfield coach Jim Buonocore. Coach brought out physical abilities from all his players that we as individuals never thought capable of doing. Besides developing strength, coordination, speed, and a team’s mind frame, he bestowed individual character and confidence in all his players over the years. Coach Buonocore has the respect, admiration, and applause of all the many players he has coached over his 60 years. Coach, you taught us well.
