Yale, Hartford Health could help with search for doctor

Thanks to The Day for identifying an issue that is impacting many in Connecticut and nationally, “Your doctor retired. Now what do you do?,” (March 12).

I have experienced many of the same frustrations transitioning from a long-time doctor to someone new. As much as I understand and see the problem, I cannot say I see many solutions being discussed. What I can suggest is that the two major actors (Yale New Haven Health and Hartford Health Care) double their efforts to facilitate this extended search for service so many are experiencing. Yes, insurance companies could help by accurately tracking who is accepting patients. But Yale and HHC are here in state, they are the agencies serving the citizens and would be doing a public service by advertising a process for finding a primary care physician, physician’s assistant and/or APRN.

The article has it right. No one should be going to the ER for an ankle sprain.
