Gimmicky name for a fine institution

Am I the only one who frowns in irritation every time he sees 'Lawrence + Memorial Hospital' in print and automatically reads it as 'Lawrence Plus Memorial,' rather than L&M or Lawrence and Memorial?

It's a fine institution; so why the gimmicky name?
