    Support our local beekeepers

I am sure beekeepers of East Lyme appreciated the recent article about honey bees and their contribution to our food resources and their current losses. (“Friends of bees and birds, pollinator pathways are a passion project,” April 12)

The costs of replacing them, plus medications and equipment has made beekeeping very expensive. Our town should make pollinator pathways to support local beekeepers. Beekeepers must register their hives with the state. There are several beekeepers throughout the town, only one is commercial, the rest being hobbyists. Beekeepers make special efforts to keep their hives where they do not interfere with their neighbors. Local honey is in much demand and is sold in local stores.
