One of the reasons I am running for East Lyme Planning Board is because of how important it is for communities like East Lyme to preserve open space in our community.

As a resident of Niantic, I am concerned about the potential loss of open space in our area. Preserving open space is essential to maintaining the character and natural beauty of our shoreline community. It also provides important ecological benefits, such as supporting local wildlife and protecting water quality. Unfortunately, many developers are eager to build on the limited available land in our area. Their eagerness for profit threatens to destroy the very things that make our community special.

Climate change is going to disproportionately affect shoreline communities and open space will help provide safeguards. We need to work together to protect our open spaces and prioritize responsible development that is respectful of our environment. We should think about the long-term impacts of our actions and the legacy we will leave for future generations. By preserving open space, we can ensure that our community remains a vibrant and thriving place for years to come.
