The Day article, “Connecticut to leave big transportation funds unspent,” Saturday Sept. 30 on the CT transportation fund was enlightening.

Remember when we were told the state needed tolls to bolster its Transportation Fund? Thank God people spoke up against that fiasco. That fund reportedly has a projected 10% ($277 million) surplus for this fiscal year and had a 15% ($277 million) surplus last fiscal year. We sure needed those tolls. On top of all that is a tax that just won’t go away (they never do). There is a 40-year-old $0.22/gallon tax on the wholesale price of gas equating to an additional $3.30/gallon for a 15-gallon fill up. That tax was voted in 2012 to be phased out! So add the flat $0.25/gallon retail tax to that and you pay a whopping $7.05 in taxes for that fill up.
