I am writing about the decision of The Day to remove the red distribution boxes around the region and significantly decrease the number of local retail shops which sell the daily newspaper. In my opinion, this movement discourages socialization with others, The purchase of the news on one's own as well as the ability to read daily handheld news and perhaps meet and visit with others throughout the region is an important and good idea.

It seems the iPod is ruling over the world in which we all live and work together as a great many prefer to access the news through technology situated in the palm of their hands. As a personal lifestyle choice, for the past couple of decades, I have attempted to slow down the speed of my life, choosing to not own a computer or television in my home. Rather, I have opted to work with technology resources at regional public libraries, community or senior centers, as well as the Mystic-based YMCA health and wellness facility.

Perhaps there is a need to bring back the daily news boxes and encourage more retail shops to sell the handheld newspaper to inspire conversation while visiting with others. Clearly, technology is important in all of our lives as I observe people each day who are committed to the idea of holding onto their iPod. At times in one's life, it may become necessary to ask, "Is too much technology guiding us all around in our daily lives?“
