America: land of opportunity

Claire Bessette's series (Feb. 26), “Embracing English: for immigrant students, mastering new language means new opportunities,” on new immigrants to Norwich, was extremely well-written, poignant and relevant. People today have to be reminded about how welcoming the U.S. is to immigrants. My grandfather came from Greece to Norwich in 1915, for a better life from a war-torn Europe. The people in the articles will become good citizens and add to the fabric of the "American Melting Pot." We can never allow people to be turned away or scorned who want to come here for a better life. America is the land of opportunity and freedom.
