Local college roundup: UConn's Calhoun sprains knee in practice

Storrs - UConn junior Omar Calhoun will likely be sidelined for at least a week after suffering a sprained MCL during practice on Sunday.

According to UConn, Calhoun had an MRI Monday on his right knee. There isn't any definitive timetable for his return.

Calhoun, a 6-foot-5 guard from Brooklyn, is attempting to bounce back from a bumpy sophomore season during which he battled a bad shooting slump. He shot just 30.5 percent from the field and averaged 3.8 points while appearing in 32 games, starting 11, for the national champions.

The Camels (13-2, 8-2) will host a first-round NESCAC tournament game for the first time in its 15-year history on Saturday against an opponent to be determined. The NESCAC regular season concludes today.

    • Coast Guard and Wellesley battled to a 1-1 tie in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Julia Mundy gave Coast Guard a 1-0 lead 60:08 but Wellesley tied the game in the 77th minute. Holly Moore made 11 saves for Coast Guard (8-7-2, 3-5-1), which needs Springfield to beat Wellesley on Saturday to secure the seventh and final NEWMAC tournament berth.

    Men's soccer

    • Adria Beso Marco's goal in the 103rd minute gave UConn a 1-0 victory over Yale in Storrs. It was the first OT victory of the season for the Huskies (8-6-2).
