    Tree Lighting and More this Weekend in Guilford

    The Guilford Green is the center of Guilford community and never is this truer than the holidays. This year, Guilford celebrates the start of the season on Friday, Dec. 2 with enough events to keep the entire family fed, entertained, and invigorated (and maybe even finishing with a few items crossed off the gift list), all centered around the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m.

    Friday, Dec. 2

    Tree Lighting on the Green: 6 p.m.

    Hand Bell Choir Concert: 6 to 6 30 p.m. at St. George Church; freewill donation to benefit Meals on Wheels. Sponsored by North Guilford Congregation Church.

    Elm City Girls Choir Concert: 7 p.m. at the First Church of Christ Scientist; freewill donation to benefit Meals on Wheels.

    The Stroll on Broad Street: traffic-free candlelight walk 6 to 9 p.m.

    Cookies for the Community: St. George Church (free) immediately following the Tree Lighting.

    Joys of Christmas Boutique: St. George Church Parish Center 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Guilford High School (GHS) Voices, Concert Choir, and Symphony Orchestra Tree Lighting Concerts: 7:30 and 9 p.m. at the First Congregational Church on the Green. Cost is $10 per ticket, available at La Rosticceria in Village Walk shopping center. Sponsored by the GHS Music Department.

    The Guilford and Clinton offices of Pearce Real Estate will hold their Annual Cocoa Café from 5 to 7 p.m. on the front lawn of their 88 Broad Street office. Hot chocolate and peppermint sticks will be served as a fundraiser for the Guilford Food Bank. Voluntary donations of cash or Big Y coins will be gratefully accepted.

    Starship Dance Theater presents the Magic Toy Shop: 7:30 p.m. in the Nathanael Greene Community Center 32 Church Street. For tickets, call 203-453-2516 or 203-453-8068.

    Chili Supper and ECW Cookie Sale: 5 to 7 p.m., Christ Church Guilford, 11 Park Street. Original artwork by Guilford artist Audrey Monroe is also available for sale.

    Saturday, Dec. 3

    Breakfast with Santa: 9 to 11 a.m., First Congregational Church on the Green. Cost of $5 per adult, $3 per child under 12 years, and $7 for a picture with Santa benefits Pligrim Fellowship.

    2011 Guilford Chamber Ornaments are available for sale at local merchants. Guilford Dollar$ and past year ornaments are available at the Chamber of Commerce office at 1300 Boston Post Road.
