State Representative Jim Crawford (D-Clinton, Killingworth, Westbrook) has been named a "Children's Champion" by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance for his commitment to early childhood issues locally and at the state Capitol.

"Rep. Crawford was chosen as a 2012 Children’s Champion for demonstrating a strong level of commitment to early childhood through leadership on policy issues during the 2012 legislative session, and active involvement on local early childhood initiatives," said Maggie Adair, Executive Director of the CT Early Childhood Alliance.

"I'm honored by this award and the opportunity to work with the Early Childhood Alliance," Rep. Crawford said. "As a former teacher and educator, I can think of no other issue greater than protecting and advocating for our children."

Upon accepting the award, Rep. Crawford spoke of the need for more male educators and said, “I encourage you to help inspire your sons, brothers, nephews - we need more young male teachers in the early grades.”

The Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance is a consortium of organizations and individuals committed to improving developmental outcomes in the areas of learning, health, safety and economic security for nearly 20,000 Connecticut children ages birth to eight, and their families.

Jim Crawford represents the 35th Assembly District of Clinton, Killingworth and Westbrook, and serves on the Energy & Technology, Insurance & Real Estate and Transportation Committees.
