East Lyme residents to vote at budget referendum Thursday
East Lyme — Residents will vote on the $62.2 million town budget proposal at a referendum Thursday.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Center, 41 Society Road.
The Board of Finance approved the 2012-13 budget proposal, a 1.41 percent increase over the current year, at a special meeting April 23. The total includes a $21 million general government budget and a $41.2 million school budget.
If approved, the budget would raise the tax rate by 0.5 mills, according to minutes from the April 23 meeting. The current tax rate is 19.47 mills; the tax rate is expected to increase to 22.7 mills when taking into account the 2011 revaluation, according to Board of Finance Chairman Raymond Hart.
