Public meeting Wednesday on study of Norwich contaminated properties

Norwich – City officials will seek public input Wednesday on a review of more than a dozen properties citywide being considered for a potential brownfields environmental cleanup assessment.

A public informational meeting will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Taftville Volunteer Fire Department, 23 Providence St., to discuss the citywide brownfields plan that will be used to apply for state and federal grants to assess and clean up the properties.

The map includes well-known target properties, including the Shipping Street former industrial district, vacant and decaying mills on Chestnut Street and the former 751 Club on North Main Street in Greeneville.

The city hired the Cecil Group for $60,000 in March to review properties throughout the city and write a citwide brownfields plan.

Wednesday’s workshop is cosponsored by the Redevelopment Agency, the Greeneville Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Committee and the Taftville Crime Watch.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
