Air conditioners provided to those in need

For the fifth consecutive summer the Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut is offering air conditioners to individuals whose health is put at risk by excessively warm weather and who cannot afford to purchase air conditioners.

Operation Cool Down is funded in part by grants from Dominion Nuclear Connecticut Inc. and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.

Individuals can work through the Community Health Center, the VNA, United Community and Family Services or their physician to obtain an air conditioner. Individuals unable to pick up or install the air conditioner will be assisted by the Federation. Only window units are provided.

A medical referral and an affidavit indicating that affordability is a problem are required. Applications can be obtained by contacting the agencies listed above or calling the Jewish Federation at 860-444-6333 or 860-442-8062.
